Pupils at Priorswood Primary School are set to enjoy a spectacular end-of-term treat this July as a tethered hot air balloon prepares to inflate on their school grounds. The visit is in celebration of the colour, excitement and wonder of the world-famous Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, which will take place from the 8th to 10th August.
The visit forms part of the inaugural Schools Tether Roadshow, an outreach programme from the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta designed to engage young people with the science and spectacle of ballooning. The initiative has already selected eight Bristol schools to host tethered balloon events this summer, following an incredible 400 applications.
Thanks to their recent partnership with the Fiesta’s headline sponsor, Albert Goodman, Priorswood Primary School has been specially selected to take part in the programme, bringing the magic of ballooning beyond Bristol and into the heart of Somerset.
Albert Goodman, a regional accountancy and business advisory firm headquartered in Taunton, has supported the chosen school for several years through fundraising efforts, career talks, and educational support. As part of their Fiesta sponsorship, the company saw an opportunity to bring a piece of the event’s excitement to their local community.
Robin Clempson, partner, Albert Goodman, commented: “We are thrilled to help bring the joy of the Balloon Fiesta to pupils in Taunton. This visit is not only a chance for children to experience something truly memorable, but also a celebration of the fantastic relationship we’ve built with the school over many years.”
Ben Hardy, executive director, Bristol International Balloon Fiesta added: “The Balloon Fiesta is a unique event that has captivated generations of West Country residents, and every year we welcome a significant number of visitors from across Somerset.
“Bringing balloons directly into school playgrounds not only provides a great learning opportunity but also creates special memories that will last forever. We’re looking forward to inspiring the next generation of Fiesta-goers, and maybe even future pilots!”
Subject to weather conditions, the tethered balloon will visit the school on one of two designated dates in July. In case of unsuitable conditions, backup plans are in place, including model hot air balloons or a special balloon-themed assembly led by the Fiesta team.
The visit promises to be both educational and inspiring, giving pupils the chance to meet balloon pilots, learn about the science of flight, and experience up-close one of the UK’s most iconic aerial traditions.
The 2025 Bristol International Balloon Fiesta will take place over three days from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 August in the rolling hills of Ashton Court Estate. The Fiesta will include two Night Glow events, taking place consecutively on Friday and Saturday evening.
