This session will cover a general update from Michelle Ferris, before moving into the more specific topic of Employment Tax, delivered by Caroline Jones. This session will explore how recent and upcoming changes are reshaping employer compliance. You will gain an understanding of key developments affecting National Insurance, HMRC’s approach to employment status and the difference between employment and self‑employment, along with the growing complexity of employment tax compliance. The session highlights practical implications for employers, including reporting requirements and the interaction with wider labour market reforms. The session should help to provide you with insights to strengthen governance, and ensure employment tax and NIC positions remain robust, compliant and aligned with organisational strategy

Michelle Ferris - Partner - Specialist in Charity Accounting and Governance
 

Michelle is Albert Goodman’s Head of Charities and has worked in the not-for-profit sector for over 15 years. She assists charities with all areas of accounting and governance, including initial advice on charity set-ups, compliance work with accounts preparations, Independent Examinations and audits (Michelle is also an audit partner within the firm), and she advises boards and lectures on various areas of governance.
 

Caroline Jones - Head of Employment Tax

Caroline is Head of Employment Tax in our Bristol Office, bringing 50 years’ experience in tax, having started her career as an Inspector of Taxes in HMRC. Caroline has advised charities on all aspects of employment tax, working in the not-for-profit sector for over 20 years, covering a wide range of topics from National Minimum Wage challenges, tax treatment of volunteers, HMRC compliance reviews and employment status, to name a few.
