Albert Goodman partnered with the Somerset Chamber to host ‘The Future of Pensions’ event at Taunton Racecourse on Friday 27 April, with guest speaker former Pensions Minister, Sir Steve Webb.
There was a brilliant turn-out of attendees for the highly-anticipated event, which began with a delicious breakfast provided by the racecourse, followed by a room change for the talk from Sir Steve.
Alistair Tudor, Head of Chamber Services at Somerset Chamber, started things off with a warm welcome and his opening statement, he then introduced the guest speaker, Sir Steve Webb.
Sir Steve’s remarks on all things pensions were fascinating and the stories of his time as an MP were very amusing, it was clear that he really wanted to leave the audience entertained, but also fully informed on the relevant changes to workplace pensions.
Sir Steve covered everything from auto-enrolment, contribution rises, pension freedoms and his famous Lamborghini quote: “if people want to spend their pensions on a Lamborghini, then it’s fine by me”, ultimately underlining that personal pensions are about, “making sure you have the future you want for yourself” and as an employer, it’s about “getting the right pensions strategy for your employees”.
The talk was concluded with lots of interesting – and at times tough – questions from the audience, followed by the closing statements and thank-yous from Albert Goodman’s very own Managing Director, Richard Bugler.
In general there was excellent feedback from attendees, who thoroughly enjoyed themselves and found the talk very useful.
If you have any questions about workplace pensions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
