Any PAYE scheme that hasn’t claimed the Employment Allowance will receive an electronic generic notification service (“GNS”) message from HMRC in September, encouraging them to check eligibility and to claim the Allowance if appropriate.
The Employment Allowance is available to qualifying employers to help reduce National Insurance costs from April 2014. However, the Allowance can only be claimed once for each employer and not for each PAYE scheme. Therefore, an employer receiving a reminder must ensure they are only claiming against one PAYE scheme, which will be particularly important if the business runs multiple schemes.
As other restrictions apply in claiming the Allowance, such as providing functions of a public nature or being part of a group of companies, it is important to check eligibility. If you would like any help with this, please do get in touch.
