The Somerset Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has been strengthened with the appointment of two new Directors this year, including Charles Olney from Albert Goodman. Albert Goodman has been a member of the Somerset Chamber of Commerce since 2001.
Speaking about his appointment to the Board, Charles said, “I have worked for a variety of business types, from international businesses through to business start-ups, and most recently as Head of Business Development and Marketing for Albert Goodman. I believe my experience in these businesses places me in a solid position to understand the support that Somerset businesses require. This, combined with a desire to help other local companies and contribute to our local community, made applying for a position of Member Director with the Somerset Chamber of Commerce a natural fit.
“I’m delighted to have been selected and look forward to working with Chairman Graham Knight, the Chamber’s team and my fellow Board Directors to create even further business benefits and opportunities for member organisations and the local economy. I already have a good working relationship with the Chamber’s team through Albert Goodman’s key advisory role in helping set up the Somerset Larder group to supply the Hinkley Point C development. I also lead Albert Goodman’s involvement in the Chamber’s annual Somerset Business Awards for which the firm is main sponsor and Family Business Award category sponsor.”
Charles Olney and Helen Lacey from Red Berry Recruitment were both appointed to the Board at the Somerset Chamber AGM following the departure of two longstanding Directors who had completed their full six year term. As part of a 12-strong Board of Directors led by Chairman Graham Knight, they will continue working towards achieving the objectives laid out in the Somerset Chamber’s business plan. This plan has helped to put the Chamber in its strongest position since it was established almost 20 years ago, now with around 550 members and recognised as being the fastest growing Chamber in the British Chambers of Commerce network.
The Somerset Chamber of Commerce is one of only five accredited Chambers in the South West and 52 in the whole of the UK. It works closely with the British Chambers of Commerce to make sure Somerset businesses stay well connected at both a local and national level, and that the voices of the Somerset business community are heard at all levels of government.
